The more you read, the more things  you will know. The more you learn, the more places you will go. -Dr. Seuss

Our Reading Block is comprised of focused whole group lessons, small group reading instruction and independent literacy tasks. Our reading program will incorporate Socratic seminars (featuring Junior Great books), literature studies, poetry, drama, and Non-fiction books. Also, during this time, I will teach guided reading, strategy groups, mentor literature circles, and conference with students. We will work on reading comprehension strategies/skils, grammar, vocabulary, word work (spelling/phonics), writing and integrating science/social studies in literacy in correlation with essential Common Core Standards.  The most important part of this time, of course, is to practice reading. Research shows that the best way to become a good reader and writer is to practice! Therefore, students will have much time each day to practice reading.
