A - Attendance- Many first grade learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is very difficult to recreate these activities at home. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends everyday, except in the cases of illness or emergency.
B - Book Orders- Scholastic book orders will be sent home on a regular basis. This is a good way to buy books at a low cost. You can also access to the orders online. If a parent orders online we will also get a free book for the class. Click here to get to the online book orders.
C - Communication- Feel free to contact me whenever you feel is you need to. My phone number is: (623) 376-3948 and my e-mail is: [email protected] You can also send a note in your child's STAR folder. Office and Bobcat Den contact information is on the school website.
D - Dismissal- School ends at 3:15. Please send in a note if your child will be dismissed at a different time than his/her schedule.
E - Emergency - Please make sure we have the correct emergency numbers and information on file for your child.
F - Field Trips - our class will participate in field trips this year. If you would like to chaperone one of these trip, please let me know! Permission slips must be returned for your child to attend.
G- Grading Scale- I follow the grading scale used in first grade : E (excelling the standards), S (Statisfactory, meets the standards), N (needs improvement).
H - Homework- Your child will receive homework on Friday and it is due on Friday unless otherwise noted. It should take about 20 - 30 minutes to complete.
I - Internet - In our class we will use the internet a lot. We will go to the computer lab to do things as a class and we will have computers in our room for student use.
J - Journals- In our class we will have science, math and writing journals to sharpen our skills and deepen our understanding of important concepts and vocabulary.
K - Kindness- We will learn to be kind to ourselves and others everyday. Be sure to encourage this at home too!
L - Library- We will go to the school library on Mondays. Your child can check out a book and it must be returned within two weeks. The public library is also a great way to check out books. Glendale Public Library
M - Mystery Reader - Each week, we will have a different mystery reader come to our class and read a special book. If you are interested in participating, please let me know and I will sign you up. For more information, click on the link for Mystery Reader.
N - News - it will be posted on the home page, so be sure to check there regularly.
O - Our Responsibilities: Classroom responsibility is very important. This will be reinforced with classroom jobs and practicing our life skills.
P - Parties - be on the lookout for information regarding classroom celebrations!
Projects: Our classroom will participate in class projects, internet
projects, and home projects this year!
Q - Questioning - Reading comprehension is important in first grade, ask your child questions about books that he or she is reading.
R - Reading - students are expected to read for 20 minutes every night. They will also have access to RAZ-Kids, an online reading program to use as well.
S - Spelling- All students are expected to practice their spelling words every week. Please refer to the Spelling link under Classroom for spelling choice ideas.
STAR Folders - this is to where all communication and homework will be kept. It should go home every night and be returned every morning to school. Please check your child'd folder each day!
T - Tardies - students will be considered tardy if they are arrive in the classroom after 8:30 a.m.
U - Uppercase and lowercase - make sure that your child uses correct capitalization and letter formation when writing.
V - Volunteers - we love volunteers! Moms, dads, and grandparents look for information on how you can help our classroom.
W - Water - your child may bring a water bottle to keep at his or her table as long it is spill proof and will not sweat on the table.
XYZ- I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year. Please make sure he or she gets plenty of Z's each night and we will have exciting days this year!
